The "Heart of Borneo Initiative" focuses on international cooperation to maintain forests and biodiversity in a network of protected areas and sustainably managed forests. The program includes the interdiction of wildlife trafficking in East Kalimantan, Sabah, and Sarawak. Activities may include strengthening transboundary political support to stop wildlife trafficking and illegal logging; capacity building for protected areas and forest management; and promotion of alternative livelihoods for local communities. Applications are accepted from NGOs, educational institutions, and non-U.S. government entities. The program will make one grant for up to US$99 thousand. Funding Opportunity OES-OER-16-001.
